Origin of Winner, Winner Chicken Dinner!

Origin of Winner Winner Chicken Dinner

Ever wonder what the origin is of the phrase "Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner," the well known and equally well used phrase often heard. If you guessed it has something to do with an actual chicken dinner you'd be right!

Origin of Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner

In years past, nearly every place in Las Vegas was offering a delicious 3 piece chicken dinner with all the trimmings (potato and veggie sides) for only $1.79 (What a deal!). It was at this same time that the standard bet for most games was $2.00.

Hence if you won a bet even at the minimum, you were guaranteed a pretty decent meal, and the phrase "Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner" came about.

Nowadays, gaming establishments don't offer something fun for the winner of a minimum bet other than money. Luckily for us, we can rack up comps no matter how our bets turn out.
